Alpha Mae Sherrick

1929-2018

Alpha Mae (Williams) Sherrick (89) of Edmond, Oklahoma passed away peacefully on December 25, 2018. She was born March 22, 1929 in Cromwell, Oklahoma, the daughter of Eddie and Laura Mae (Shelton) Williams.

Although born in Cromwell, Alpha grew up in Okemah, Oklahoma, graduating from Okemah high school. She later moved to Britton and worked as an elevator operator and later was employed by a lawyer and then an ophthalmologist. While working as a waitress she met her future husband, Oliver Sherrick Jr. (Junior). They married shortly after on December 7 th , 1950. Their favorite saying was, "We were married on Pearl Harbor Day and have been fighting ever since." But the love they shared, we all knew better.

Alpha and Oliver lived in Britton and Edmond Oklahoma raising their sons Rick and Dean there. In 1969 she started working for the Oklahoma City School system's cafeteria. First at Stonegate Elementary and later became the cafeteria manager at Horace Mann Elementary School. After being employed there 15 years, Alpha retired in order to help care for her granddaughters. Her 3 granddaughter's loved spending time with their grandma, Alphi ("Alphi" as she was known by all her family and friends). They had many sleepovers cooking, reading, singing, sewing, shopping, and visiting Alpha's sisters in Okemah and Eufaula.

Some of Alpha's talents and hobbies were writing poems and songs, making arts and crafts, tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. A favorite past time was also catching that elusive fish.

After the death of her husband Oliver in 2016, Alpha continued to live independently in her home. The family is greatly appreciative of Alpha and Oliver's church home, Spring Creek Assembly of God, and most fondly thankful for Darrell and Maxine Swisher and their daughter Barbara who took extra special care of Alpha.

She was a woman of great faith in God who continuously lifted her family before the Lord in prayer. She will be missed dearly. Her family and friends take much comfort in knowing that she is in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ surrounded by her loved ones who proceeded her.
