Alta M. Garrett

January 1, 1948 – Febuary 26, 2023

Alta M. Garrett passed from her family's hands into God's hands on February 26, 2023.  As she so enjoyed throughout her life, Alta's last days were spent in her home surrounded by a family get together sharing laughter, pictures, stories, joy and love.

Alta was born on January 1, 1948 to Wilford and Margaret Moberly in El Reno, Oklahoma.  She was the first of three daughters who became lifelong friends.  In 1958 when she was in the 5 th grade, her family moved to Edmond.  Shortly after that, she met the love of her life, Herbert Garrett, on the school bus.  When she was 14, and Herb was 15, they had their first of many dates.  Even though he didn't have a license, Herb drove them into town to a movie.  Alta and Herb were baptized together in 1962.   Then, on December 10, 1965 Alta and Herb were married and began their 57 year life together as husband and wife.

During the first years of their marriage, Alta and Herb started building their dream of a family and farm.  They had three children, Dale, Julie and Barry.  Once the children were all in school, Alta started driving a school bus for Guthrie Public Schools.  Then in 1987, Alta graduated from X-ray tech school and began a 20 year career at Edmond Hospital as an X-ray tech.

In 1988, Alta and Herb were able to purchase the farm they had dreamed of and worked towards for many years.  In 2008, they built a home on the farm, just the way they wanted it to be.  With lots of windows and a long back porch full of rockers and swings to watch a huge back yard of cows, chickens, dogs, grandkids and sunsets.  Alta called sunsets God's artwork.

Alta is preceded in death by her father, Wilford Moberly, her mother and father in law, Thelma and Ernest Garrett and her brother in law, Allen Garrett.  She is survived by her husband, Herbert Garrett; Her children and their spouses, Dale and Tracey Garrett, Julie Garrett and Barry and Stacey Garrett; her grandchildren Jacob Garrett, Connor Garrett, Katelyn Garrett, Megan Garrett, Evan Garrett and Brenna Garrett.  Alta is also survived by her mother, Margaret Moberly, her sisters and their spouses, Rita and Ernie Bingham and Annita and Pat Leehan as well as a host of sister in laws, brother in laws, nieces, nephews and "Littles" that will miss her dearly.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to Westview Boys Home.
