Avery Ann Canon, beloved daughter, sister, niece, and granddaughter passed away on September 12, 2025. She was 19 years old.
Born on March 6, 2006, in Oklahoma City to Chad and Brandy Canon, Avery grew up in Edmond, Oklahoma, where she later welcomed the role of big sister to Presley. Her life was a story of perseverance, joy, and love that touched everyone who knew her.
From an early age, Avery faced many challenges. She was slower to reach developmental milestones and was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age two. At five, she was diagnosed with autism, in 2018 her family received clarity with a diagnosis of STXBP1, a rare gene mutation. Despite these obstacles, Avery’s spirit shone bright. She met life with strength, sass and an unforgettable smile.
Avery attended Edmond Memorial High School, where she graduated in 2024. She went on to intern at The Edmond Transition Academy, where her joy for connecting and sharing her love with others left a lasting impression.
To her family and friends, Avery was lovingly known as their “sour patch kid.” She was full of personality—sweet and sassy, often surprising those around her with her big heart and bold spirit. She adored being outside, splashing in the water, and spending time on the boat. She loved dancing, jumping, and sharing her “happy screams.” Avery was never shy about greeting new people—she never met a stranger and welcomed everyone with open arms. Her hugs and kisses on cheeks were treasures that made people feel instantly loved.
Avery was preceded in death by her grandfather, Randy Dorman. She is survived by her parents, Chad and Brandy Canon; sister, Presley Canon; grandmother, Pam Dorman; grandparents, Steve and Debi Canon; along with many other loving family members and friends.
A celebration of Avery’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 19, at Henderson Hills Baptist Church in Edmond. She will be laid to rest at Gracelawn Cemetery, also in Edmond.
To honor Avery, whose favorite color was pink, her family invites all who attend to wear pink as a beautiful symbol of her life and spirit.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to STXBP1 foundation in Avery’s honor.
Though Avery’s time on earth was too short, the love she gave and the joy she carried will be cherished forever.
