Barbara Fisher, aged 99, of Edmond, Oklahoma passed away peacefully while in the company of her family. She was born to Clyde and Lena Minter on September 10, 1926, in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
Barbara was a farm girl and grew up in a devout Christian family. She loved all God’s creatures and being outdoors. She learned to garden and take care of livestock from her dad and from her mom, homemaking, sewing and raising birds. At the age of thirteen she became a big sister to Janice, who was her best friend later in life. While in school Barbara was an outstanding athlete, and her passion was basketball. She was 5’11” at the time, so she was an asset to her team.
Barbara met John J. Fisher, her husband of 55 years, after he saw her walking across Main Street in Ardmore and exclaimed, “Who is that beauty? That’s the woman I’m going to marry!” They were married on May 5, 1950. Soon after that they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and had their daughter Frances Lynn on January 1957. During that time Barbara’s life was spent as a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. She was an outstanding seamstress, designing and making almost all of she and Fran’s clothes.
Barbara also had the gift of nurturing anything, from bunnies, kittens, dogs, and birds that were injured or separated from their families to bringing plants and flowers back to life, she could grow anything. Barbara loved to banter and kid with people and could be the life of the party if given the chance. She was loved by all who got to know her.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Lena, her husband of 55 years, John, her younger sister, Janice, and her niece, Debra.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Fran and Mark Walker, her nephew and his wife Scott and Joni Skaggs, one grandson, and two great grandchildren.
