Betty Lou Neal

1921-2015

Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.  Honor her for all that her hands have done and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.  Proverbs 3l: 30 -31.

Betty Lou Barnes Neal, 94, met her Lord and savior Jesus Christ face to face on Tues. Nov. 10, 2015 at 6:45 am.  Betty is survived by her son Glen of Edmond, son and daughter in law Tom and Sue Neal of Bethany, daughter Lynn Hughes of Stillwater, grandson Tanner Neal of Mustang, and great grandson Koby Neal of Jones. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 Friday Nov. 13 at Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 in the chapel of First Christian Church of Edmond. Betty was born in Okla. City on March 2, 1921.  She graduated from Putnam City High School where she met her future husband R.D. Neal.  She went on to graduate from O.U. as a speech and drama major and briefly taught a high school English class after that.  She and R.D were married in Oct. of 1942. They first lived in a small house on R.D.'s family dairy farm where he helped his dad with the dairy.  This was her first experience of "country living" and she loved it. They soon were able to buy a farm of their own northwest of Edmond at the corner of Western and Covell where they lived the rest of their lives. She spent her entire life unselfishly caring for her family:  helping her children with school work, being a home room mother, baking, sewing clothes, gardening and then preserving the harvest and preparing delicious meals.  A big part of her life was spent working with her children in their many, many 4-H activities.  She loved her church family and worked diligently in her church.  And, last but not least, she instilled in her children a love for Jesus and his teachings.  She loved her Lord and we celebrate her "homegoing". In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to be made in her name to First Christian church of Edmond, P.0. Box 3458, 73083.
