Beulah was born Beulah Mae Glenn on July 28, 1925, to Lura and Bill Glenn in Verden Oklahoma. Beulah was the oldest child in a family with four brothers. Beulah’s father, Bill, died of pneumonia when she was 9 years old. Life was hard during the depression especially for a single mother. A decision was made, for the wellbeing of the children, to split the family up among relatives. At age nine Beulah went to live with Aunt Addie and Uncle Thurman on a farm near Duncan Oklahoma.
The next several years were difficult. She attended school when possible. When Beulah was 17, she met and after a short dating period, married Eulys Woods. Beulah, made her own wedding dress out of blue velvet material while Eulys secured the marriage license in Stephens County. So, on October 28, 1942, along with Beulah’s mother and Eulys’s mother, they prepared for the big event. However, the marriage license was only good in Stephens County, they were in Cotton County. The Minister couldn’t marry them because they were in the wrong county. The wedding party packed up and drove to Stephens County where the Minister married them there. With both their mothers at their side, Beulah and Eulys stood beside the road, said their vows, and were married. Three days later Eulys received his draft notice; and was drafted into the army. Beulah and Eulys moved to Marlow when Eulys got out of the army and then to Oklahoma City where they settled.
Beulah was an excellent seamstress and made many of the clothes for Karen and Linda. When they were in Junior High, Beulah took a part time job at John A Browns. She worked her way up to head cashier. When Dillard’s purchased Browns, she became a salesclerk and retired soon afterwards. Eulys died on July 22, 1996. Beulah enjoyed travelling with Linda and Karen. They went to Alaska, New England, down the Mississippi, the Ohio River, along the coast of the southern United States, and to Europe and Ireland.
In Beulah’s latter years she became more focused on enjoying her home, friends, and church. She especially enjoyed her two daughters; Linda and Karen, grandsons; Edward, Kit, and Adam, and her granddaughters; Shannon and Amy. Additionally, Beulah has nine great-grandchildren.
