Bill F. Pinson

1936-2014

Billy Frank Pinson, age 77, left this earth to dance with the angels on February 28, 2014 while surrounded by his loving family in Oklahoma City.

He was the youngest of five children, born on December 28, 1936 in Hollis, OK to his parents, Charlie and Maud Pinson, and was raised in Olustee, OK. Bill joined the US Army in 1959 and was honorably discharged in 1962. He began his career with the Oklahoma City Fire Department in 1965 and rose to the position of District Chief in 1985 before retiring in 1992.

He married the love of his life, Mary Ann Baker, in January 1969 and they were happily married for just over 45 years. They have two daughters, Ramona and Laura. While working for the fire department, Bill always stayed busy with outside projects; at different times running his own auto parts supply company, printing business, and service station, just to name a few. He even met Mary Ann while working part-time as a butcher at Humpty Dumpty where she was also employed. To describe him as hardworking would be an understatement.

In his spare time and throughout his retirement, Bill also enjoyed playing golf, going dancing, spending time at the lake, and traveling all over the country with his wife in their RV. They met many friends in their travels on the road, most of whom they have continued to keep in contact with and consider their extended family.

Bill was a very special man and was adored by many. He was a hero not only at fighting fires and serving the public, but he was one at home to his family as well. He will forever be known as one who was always willing to lend a helping hand – and grill an awesome steak.

Bill was kind and considerate, generous and giving, loyal and thoughtful, intelligent and hardworking. He was quiet and serious yet funny and playful, never missing an opportunity for a little good-natured ribbing. He will be missed by many indeed.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Maud Pinson; his brother, Loye Pinson; and two of his sisters, Irene Anderson and Betty Gaskin. He is survived by his sister, Jean Ford of Florida; his beloved wife, Mary Ann of Oklahoma City; his two daughters, Ramona (Brian) Dumler of Edmond, OK and Laura (Eric) Remington of Fort Worth, TX; seven grandchildren: Stacy (Kenny) Phillips, Greg Wanzer, Dylan Remington, Madelyn Remington, Logan Remington, Whitney Bryen, and Tarryn Dumler; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Special thanks to the staff at Mercy Hospital and Mercy Hospice for their loving care and guidance. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bill's honor to Mercy Hospice, 4401 W. Memorial Road, Suite 143, Oklahoma City, OK 73134.

Services will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at 2:00pm at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly, Edmond, OK.
