Bobbie Jeanne Lopez
1939-2016
Bobbie Jeanne Lopez, 76, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016. She was born July 8, 1939 to Bennett and Margaret Cathey (Wilmoth Sharp) in Edmond, OK. While still young, her stepfather, Wayne Wilmoth, became her "Daddy Wayne" for which she was eternally grateful.
Bobbie grew up in Edmond and graduated from Edmond High School in 1957. She married Ivan Barber and had 2 children, Kevin and Adam. She worked several years at Edmond Tag Agency and Social Security Administration before working 19 years at the University of Central Oklahoma and retiring.
Bobbie was a lifelong learner, voracious reader and music lover. She played the piano, accordion and guitar. She attended UCO, excelling in art classes and becoming politically active working for the McGovern presidential campaign in 1972. Through her later marriages to Antonio Aguilar and Jose Lopez, Bobbie became fluent in Spanish and experienced the Mexican culture, which she loved.
Bobbie converted to Catholicism in her 50's and joined St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Her later interests included personal computing, surfing the web, bird watching and viewing OETA. She loved solitude but always made her Sunday visits to see family and friends.
Bobbie is preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, sister Gaye Bryant, brother-in-laws Donald Bryant and Larry Cone, and nephew Don Gene Bryant. She is survived by sister Cheryl Cone of Edmond, her children and their spouses Kevin and Denise Barber of Edmond, and Adam and Natalie Barber of Edmond, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Bobbie's life will be held Thursday, March 17, 2016 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond, OK.
