Bobby "Bob" Joe McVay

1935-2018

Bobby Joe McVay was born on Dec. 25, 1935 in Cushing, Oklahoma. He passed away on Sept. 26 at his home in Edmond. Bob moved to Edmond at an early age with his parents, William and Virginia Cobb. It's here that he met the love of his life, Darlene Brown. Together they had two children, Larry Joe and Lori Jan. He made it a priority to be involved in their lives and attended as many dance recitals and sporting events as possible.

Early in his career, he was employed at Roberson Steel but eventually moved on, and retired from WW Steel. He loved to hunt, fish, play dominos and spend time with his family. He was also a gifted story teller who spared no detail. You didn't dare try to rush the ending to any story that PePaw was telling.

Bob took great pride in raising his family and he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was especially fond of his great granddaughter Lauren, who hung on his every word and made him feel special and loved.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; parents, William and Virginia Cobb; brothers, Wilbur McVay and Danny Cobb. He is survived by his son, Larry Joe McVay and his wife, Debbie of Blanchard, Okla.; daughter, Lori Jan (McVay) Mingo and husband, John Mingo of Houston, Texas, grandchildren, Brooke Smith, and husband, Lindsay of Tulsa, Bobby Joe McVay II, and his wife, Kelli of Andover, Kansas, and Kristina Farrimond and husband, Patrick of Albuquerque, New Mexico; great grandchildren, Ainsley Smith, Marin Smith, Audrey Farrimond, Quin Farrimond, Lauren Horton, Chase Horton and Cash McVay. Also survived by his beloved niece, Rachelle Ketchum, husband, Brent Ketchum, and their son, Dalton Ketchum. He also leaves behind extend family members, Ralph Lindsey, Mike Lindsey, Bobby, Cindi and Zane Lindsey, and Jerry Lindsey.

Public visitation will be held on Sunday, September 30th from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Services will be held Monday, October 1, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Gracelawn Cemetery.
