Oklahoma City, OK

Carol Nice Detweiler was born on October 26, 1961, to Byron Lloyd Nice and Nettie Rebekah Nice in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She grew up in Newport News, Virginia, and Durham, North Carolina, where her family helped plant a Mennonite church. She enjoyed long summer road trips and sewing her own dresses when she was a teenager. She attended Eastern Carolina University and North Carolina State University for a bachelor’s degree in education. She spent free time doing pottery, helping with international Bible studies, and bike riding while dating Glenn Detweiler. After graduation, she taught math in the public school system and quickly rose to math and science department leader at Jordan High School. Carol and Glenn were married on June 25, 1988, and they honeymooned on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

They moved to Oklahoma in 1991 for Glenn’s job. They eventually purchased a home on three acres in the country near Stillwater and had two children, Byron and Rachel. Carol enjoyed homeschooling them, running a Creative Memories business, leading a women’s Sunday school at Memorial Road Mennonite Brethren Church, and teaching quilting classes to the wives of international students at University Heights Baptist Church.

In 2007 the family moved to Corn, OK. At Corn Bible Academy, Carol served as dorm mom and teacher as well as helping out with many school activities. In 2014 she and Glenn moved back to Durham to care for her elderly parents. There she loved spending time with family, doing pottery, and quilting with church ladies. In 2022 Carol was diagnosed with endometrial cancer and began treatment. She and Glenn moved back to Oklahoma in 2025 to spend time with their children. Carol went to be with Jesus on June 18, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Rebekah. She is survived by her husband Glenn; children Byron and his fiancé Mackenzie, Rachel and her husband Emilio; as well as brothers Joe, Keith, and Kevin and their families.

Carol’s kind, cheerful presence will be greatly missed by all.
