Carol Sue Earl Meade
1938-2021
Carol Sue Earl Meade, 83, passed from this life on October 19, 2021. She was born on April 26, 1938, in Kansas City, MO to Henry L. and Ethel E. Earl. She is proceeded in death by her parents, her sister, Marsha, and her beloved husband, Paul G. Meade. Carol is survived by her sister, Kay Calavan, and husband Mike; children Charles Meade and wife Karen, Devin Meade and wife Billye and their children Delaney and Nathaniel, sister-in-law, Marcella, brother-in-law, Raymond and their children Nick, Tyler, Cody, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Carol was the first graduating class from Northwest Classen High School. Her design was selected as the logo for the new school! She attended Central State University and graduated with a bachelor's and master's degrees in Education. She taught Humanities at the University of Oklahoma. Carol taught and was a tutor to Lucious, Dewey and Lee Roy Selmon, defensive linemen for the Sooners.
Carol initially worked in publishing and authored children's books. She then spent many years as a teacher starting first at Sapulpa High School. She then taught at Harding High, Heritage Hall, and finally the University of Oklahoma. She then joined her husband in running an insurance agency.
Carol was a teacher at heart. She taught school, but also taught her nephews and tutored them. She taught her sons and her grandchildren. Her grandchildren loved her grilled cheese sandwiches. She and Paul always had neighborhood kids in their home. She also was a lifelong learner and was always reading. Carol also loved to draw, paint, and quilt. She taught her granddaughter how to sew. Carol rescued and loved her pets.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at 10:30 am at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly Avenue, Edmond, OK 73003.
