Charlene Mildred Brownback, former lifelong resident of Linn County, Kansas died peacefully Thursday, February 13, 2014, surrounded by her children.

Charlene, the daughter of Roger and Katherine Johnston, was born on July 4, 1933 in Alexander, Kansas. She grew up on the farm in LaCygne, Kansas and married Harold Reves on June 4, 1950. They moved to Pleasanton, Kansas and had two children, Michael and Sherry Reves. Harold was fatally killed in a car crash on July 16, 1953 and Charlene married Bill Brownback 6 years later on December 28, 1959. Together they had a son, Terry Brownback.

Charlene worked as a telephone operator at the Pleasanton Telephone Company and later was promoted to an office position. She also kept books and did payroll for Bill's rural water line business, Bill Brownback Construction Company. Raising a vegetable garden and cooking were among many of her passions. Charlene was a member of the First Christian Church for many years and was involved in community service. She loved to quilt, swim and bicycle, always taking time out to visit with others along the way. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved to spend time with family. Charlene and Bill retired in 1983 to travel and enjoy life. After traveling as snowbirds for many years, they settled permanently in Pharr, Texas.

Survivors include her sons, Michael Reves and wife, Christy of Hankamer, TX, Terry Brownback and wife Cindy of Americus, KS; daughter, Sherry Pack and husband, Bruce of Edmond, OK; 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Services will be held at the First Christian Church in Pleasanton, Kansas at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 1, 2014.
