Charlene K. Franklin
July 6, 1943—April 8, 2023
Charlene Kay Franklin, 79, was born in Perryton, Texas on July 6, 1943, to Charles Wilburn Franklin and Margie Opal Reed Franklin. She was raised on a farm in Beckham County, Oklahoma. Charlene had three brothers, Eddie, Kennith, and Hershel, and a younger sister Deborah.
Charlene graduated high school in 1961 from Sayre High School. Charlene had four children—twin daughters Kay and Kathy, and two sons Clint and Clay. She was a dedicated mom who taught them Bible stories, memory verses, and church songs while going about her daily tasks. Through prayer, consistent effort, a solution-focused mindset, and perseverance, she supported her family of five on her own. She attended college and graduated with honors. Charlene taught special education for many years.
In the late 70's and early 80's, she became a landman. She enjoyed the challenge and had her own successful business for many years. Charlene traveled extensively. She loved to cruise and often joked about retiring on a cruise ship. Charlene was part of a mission team in Canada in her early 20's. After she retired, she took mission trips to Nicaragua and Tanzania. Charlene had 9 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Charlene was diagnosed with ALS November 2022 and quickly deteriorated passing away on April 8, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Margie Franklin, and brother Eddie Franklin.
Charlene is survived by her four children: Kay Scott and husband Ron of Enid, Kathy Mimms of Florida, Clint Franklin and wife Stacey of Edmond, Clay Franklin of Edmond, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two brothers, and a sister.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2023, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the North MacArthur Church of Christ in Oklahoma City with Kevin Rayner officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Erick Cemetery, Erick, OK.
