Clayton "James" Hutchison

July 31, 1957 — March 1, 2026

Edmond

James Hutchison was born July 31, 1957 to Melvin and Bess Hutchison in Enid, Oklahoma and passed from life on March 1, 2026.

Growing up, James had a very tight knit group of friends and they remained so until his death. He graduated from Enid High School in 1975 and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford where he majored in Psychology. Upon graduating from college he moved back to Enid and began working at the Enid State School, where he met the love of his life, Sherry Hunter. They were married November 26, 1983 and lived life together until his passing.

James had two children, Chris and Paige, and his life revolved around them from their birth. He coached all sports for each of them, was a constant sounding board and provided continuous guidance through each of their lives. He never missed a game, school program or any significant event. While working full time and raising his children, James received his Master’s Degree in Psychology, an achievement that brought him great pride. His career spanned several industries, all dedicated to helping others, but the bulk was spent as administrator of a psychiatric hospital.

Upon the birth of his grandchildren he decided he wanted to be called Gandy due to his love of Gandalf from Lord of the Rings. He loved his family fiercely and will continue to live on through them. James was a lifelong Bruce Springsteen fan and his favorite place to be was Key West, Florida.

James is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sherry Hutchison, children Chris (Allison) and Paige Hutchison, two grandchildren, Lydia and Paxton, his younger sister Anne Gerszewski (Francis), Sherry’s brother Allen (Andrea) and sister Patti (Mike) along with many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be scheduled with family and close friends.
