It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Colonel John D Bartrug. He was born in Holdenville, OK and is preceded in death by his wife Sally W Bartrug, parents Clay B Bartrug and Nola Woods Bartrug, and brother Clay Bartrug Jr. John is survived by his children Robert D Roland of Stamford, CT, Marilyn R Gullion and husband Jim Poage of Highlands Ranch, CO, his grandson that brought him so much joy, Robert L Gullion of Scottsdale, AZ, sister in law Dee Bartrug of Norman, OK, and nephews Clay Bartrug III and Brenden Bartrug, both of Norman, OK, and extended family. Just a few days shy of 90 years of age, John passed away following the effects of Alzheimer's disease on Sunday, November 19, 2023.

A lifelong resident in Oklahoma City and Edmond, John was a loving husband, father and grandfather that only showed kindness, compassion, and generosity to all. He retired from AT&T, formerly Southwestern Bell, as an electrical engineer, was in the US Army, Air National Guard, and retired from the US Air Force as a Colonel. Throughout life, he was active in many organizations including the Gray Eagles, the US Air Force Academy Silver Falcon Association, AFCEA, Gutherie Scottish Rite, Myrtle Lodge #145, the Shriner's India Temple, Past Commander Legion of Honor, Young Men's Club and Revelers Dance Club.

A public visitation is available at anytime on Friday, November 24, 2023, from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM, on Saturday, November 25, 2023, from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM, and on Monday, November 27, 2023, beginning at 8:00 AM and lasting until 8:00 PM, with family present from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM. at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly Ave., Edmond, Oklahoma

On Tuesday, November 28, 2023, there will be a Memorial Service at 10:00 am at Crown Heights Christian Church, 4020 N Western Ave, OKC, OK, followed by interment at Resthaven Cemetery 500 SW 104 th St, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
