Darla Jean “DJ” Lewis, 59, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family and friends. A radiant presence wherever she went, Darla filled every room with laughter, warmth, and an unmistakable joy for life.
Born on December 1, 1966, in Oklahoma City, Darla was the cherished daughter of Connie Tribble and the late John Tribble, and the beloved sister of Sheila Parker. She married the love of her life, Steve Lewis, on December 7, 1996, and together they built a life full of humor, devotion, and unwavering love. Darla was a proud mother to Nathan and Samuel Lewis—her pride and joy—and a devoted aunt to her seven nieces and nephews, as well as “Aunt Darla the Great” to her cherished great nephew.
A testament to her determination and spirit, Darla graduated from Oklahoma State University–Oklahoma City in 2001, achieving her degree while pregnant with her second child. Her perseverance and positivity inspired all who knew her.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Darla will remember her as unapologetically herself—quick-witted, genuine, and always the first to lift someone’s spirits. She had an extraordinary gift for connection, making fast friends everywhere she went, and her laughter was truly infectious. Whether cheering you on through challenges or simply sharing a joke, her enthusiasm knew no bounds.
Darla’s passions reflected her vibrant personality. She was a loyal and lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs, an avid reader of every genre, and she took immense pride in the number of books she devoured each year. Her annual beach trips with close friends were among her happiest times, and she never missed an episode of *Criminal Minds*, a show she watched with gleeful fascination.
Faith was central to Darla’s life. An active member of Northside Christian Church in Oklahoma City, she led the fellowship committee, coordinated countless gatherings, and assisted with live streaming services. She found great purpose in serving others and joy in building community wherever she was needed.
Darla’s legacy of love, laughter, and wholehearted kindness will live on through every life she touched.
A celebration of Darla’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 4, at 11:00 a.m. at Northside Christian Church, 2526 NW 122nd, Oklahoma City. Family and friends are invited to attend and honor her remarkable life.
