1936-2016

Darlene June McVay, 79, Edmond, OK, passed away on January 15, 2016. She was born on March 21, 1936 to Delilah and Gordon Brown. She was a life long resident of Edmond and made many friends.

She graduated from Edmond High School in 1954 and went on to obtain her bachelors degree from Central State University. She taught for 31 years in the Oklahoma City Public Schools system and retired in 1998.

Darlene married Bob McVay on November 27, 1954. They were blessed with 61 years of marriage. Darlene (Mema) loved her family and stayed active in their lives. In her younger years, she loved to square dance, sew, and travel. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and she knew how to make everyone feel loved and special. She always hosted the family gatherings and celebrations and was a great cook.

Darlene is survived by her husband Bob McVay, Edmond, OK, son and daughter in law, Larry and Debbie McVay of Blanchard, OK, daughter and son in law, Lori and John Mingo of Belleville, TX, Grandchildren Brooke and Dr. Lindsey Smith of Tulsa, OK, B.J. and Kelli McVay of Andover, KS, and Krissi and Patrick Farrimond of Princeton, NJ, Great grandchildren Ainsley and Marin Smith, Tulsa, OK, Lauren and Chase Horton, Cash McVay, Andover, KS, Audrey and Quin Farrimond, Princeton, NJ.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 20 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel Edmond, OK with burial to follow at Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond, OK.
