Darrell Franklin Wishon

February 28, 1952 — April 28, 2026

Edmond

Darrell Franklin Wishon was the eighth of nine sons born to Tony and Faye Wishon of Edmond, Oklahoma. Darrell grew up on the family farm north of town where he lived until the 28th of April 2026, when his body decided it was time to rest because it was tired from trying to keep up with him.

He grew up in Edmond along with his eight brothers, Gene, Tony (Chub), Charlie (Fred), Royce, Alan, Larry, Sid, and Randy and attended Russell Dougherty Elementary School, Edmond Junior High, and Edmond High School until he didn’t…

Darrell married Lenora Seagrove of Guthrie in 1971, they had a son together, Keith Alan Wishon.

Darrell worked for his brother Gene, in his hay and wheat fields pretty much from the time he could drive a tractor until Gene passed in late 2013. He also helped him keep his farm equipment running. He also worked in several different occupations during his life, some of which were Wishon Texaco for his brother Royce, Honeywell, Purina, and the oil field. He loved playing and listening to music; classic rock and outlaw country were his genres of choice. He got to help set up and tear down a few of the bands he enjoyed and because of that got to meet some of his favorite musicians. He had a great ear for balancing out the highs and lows and playing the right tune at the right time and even DJ’d at a few different “venues”. His ear for tuning didn’t stop with music, he was one of the best mechanics around until his passing. Darrell told me about a local dealership owner that came to his home and offered him a job, because the man had heard of his mechanical skills. He told the guy thank you, but no! He said he wasn’t gonna work to make money for somebody else, he wanted to help people that didn’t have mechanic shop money and make enough for himself to live.

Darrell will be greatly missed by his children Keith Wishon-Poer, and his grandson Bryce, of Stephenville, Texas, Heather Turner of Yukon, Elizabeth Smith, of Edmond, and his bonus daughter Crystal Shannon, also born and raised in Edmond. He leaves behind his brothers, Fred (Charlie) Wishon, of Rogers, Arkansas, Alan Wishon, Larry Wishon, Sid Wishon, and Randy Wishon all of Edmond, Oklahoma. Plus, over one hundred nieces, nephews, great, and great-great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Tony and Faye Wishon, his brothers, Royce, Tony Clyde, and Gene and the love of his life, Jill Harris Shannon Johnson.
