David Hanes Miller went to be with the Lord at the age of 90 on March 10, 2025. Born on June 8, 1934, in Snyder, Oklahoma, David was one of four beloved children of C.O. and Kate Miller. He had two sisters and one brother which enhanced his journey through life and was defined by love, commitment, and dedication.
David's story with Lily Verle Richardson began in the first grade. They graduated from Snyder High School in 1952 and later married in January 1954 in Stillwater, Oklahoma, sharing a beautiful bond for 71 wonderful years. Together, they built a loving family, welcoming two daughters, Brenda in 1955, and Diane in 1957.
David graduated from Eastern Oklahoma State College with an associate's degree, where he played football and baseball. He was also a talented pitcher but had to stop due to an injury despite receiving a scholarship from Oklahoma State University. After earning his associate degree, David worked at Halliburton for ten years. During this time, he was involved in a job-related accident that resulted in legal blindness. Despite this challenge, with Lily's unwavering support, he graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor's degree in labor relations in 1963. After graduating David was then hired by Corning Inc., which led him to a 30-year career that began his and Lily's travels as he was placed in many different states during that time.
After David's retirement from Corning Inc., he and Lily acquired a passion for travel, exploring Europe, Canada, Mexico, the Panama Canal, and Alaska. They also lived in various cities, including Houston, Dallas, New York, and Kentucky, before settling back in Oklahoma. David served as an Elder of the Edmond Church of Christ for 23 years, leading the congregation through teaching Bible classes, exemplifying his faith, and aiding in the church's construction. He was a testament to God's work in many aspects of his life. Additionally, David was an avid fan of OU football, cheering on the Sooners throughout his life.
David's legacy is one of unwavering love for his family, a deep devotion to the Lord, and a remarkable journey in life. He will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and the countless cherished moments shared with loved ones. David was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
