David Floyd Maloy was 82 years old when he passed away on July 22, 2025, in Edmond, Oklahoma. He was born on May 6, 1943, in Seminole, Oklahoma to Floyd D. Maloy and Frances Mae (Kaundart) Maloy. He is survived by his wife Linda W. Maloy, children Zac (Jennifer, wife) Maloy and Tava (Brian, husband) Sofsky, grandchildren Benjamin (Ben) Z. Maloy, Jude G. Maloy, Madison (Maddie) M. Sofsky, Merrin C. Sofsky, and Hayden M. Sofsky, as well as brother Charles Eugene (Gene); (Kathy, wife) Maloy.
David earned a Civil Engineering degree at the University of Oklahoma and was then accepted to Naval Officer Candidate School. After active duty, he continued as a Naval Reservist. He retired as a Commander in the United States Navy in 1997. He was employed for more than three decades with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) and as Chief Engineer of the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority (OTA). He was a Professional Engineer and a member of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), the Oklahoma Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
David developed remotely activated Bridge Anti-Icing units and installed many of these systems on bridges in Oklahoma and Texas, saving many lives. He and his wife owned and operated a movie theater and developed a top seller board game in Great Britian.
David's hobbies have been real estate, traveling and enjoying time with his wife, kids and their spouses, and grandchildren. He always kept drumsticks; U.S. Navy flags and a Bible close to him.
A Celebration of Life viewing will be held at Matthews Funeral Home on Friday, August 1, 2025, from 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm and Saturday, from 8:00 am – 10:00 am located at 601 S. Kelly Avenue, Edmond, OK 73003. A graveside celebration service will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 11:00 am at Gracelawn Cemetery located at 1407 N. Boulevard, Edmond, OK 73034.
