David J. Preston
1942-2016
David John Preston passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016. He was born April 8, 1942 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Mildridge "Jinx" Preston and Libbie Zrudsky Preston. He spent 30 years in law enforcement, including 10 years in Iowa as a police officer in Solon, Iowa and as a deputy sheriff in Johnson County, Iowa in Iowa City. He moved his family to Edmond, Okla. in 1976 when he took a job with the Edmond Police Department. He moved up the ranks to Major and assistant chief and filled in as acting chief numerous times, until his retirement in 1996.
He loved to fish his whole life and became an avid golfer in the late 80's. He loved camping and doing anything with his family. He would rather be out helping someone in any way than doing something for himself.
He is survived by his mother, Libbie Preston Schild, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A son, Brian Preston, of Edmond Okla., a daughter, Brenda Preston, of Edmond Okla., a son, Dennis Preston, of Iowa, a grandson, Seth Preston, of Iowa, sisters-in-law, Penny and Malinda Preston, and numerous nieces and nephews from Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Preston, his father, Mildridge "Jinx" Preston and his brothers, Gary and Mike Preston.
Services shall be held at Matthews Funeral Home on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.
