David Roewe, 65, passed away Monday, August 7, 2023.
David Andrew Roewe, 65, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday, August 7, 2023. He was born in Jacksboro, TX on April 28, 1958, to Henry J. and Shirley A. Roewe, the second of six children. He lived in Windthorst, TX until the age of 11 when his family moved to Oklahoma City, OK. He attended Bishop John Carroll Elementary School and was a 1976 graduate of Bishop McGuinness High School. Immediately after graduating, he dedicated five years of service to the United States Marine Corp's 3rd Battalion of the 1st Marine Regiment based out of Camp Pendleton, CA. He attained the rank of sergeant.
David bought his first Harley-Davidson while a Marine and continued to ride until his final days. David met the love of his life, Melani, in August, 1980, when he offered her a ride on his bike, and they married December 5.
He dearly loved his two children, Jaciel and Andrew, for whom he would do anything, and he felt pure joy in spoiling his three granddaughters, Penelope, Arya, and Reagan, whom he called, Tall, Middle, and Little.
David spent his entire adult life working in the natural gas industry, beginning as a roughneck for Eason Oil Company and working his way up to Manager of Compression Services for Enable Midstream Partners.
He enjoyed the outdoors, including pheasant hunting, dove hunting, ice fishing, deep sea fishing, sporting clay shooting, felling and trimming trees, and any work involving a chainsaw or tractor. Evenings were spent on the back patio enjoying coffee and good whiskey with friends and family.
His devotion to his faith led him to serve at St. Monica Catholic parish in Edmond, and the Knights of Columbus. He held leadership positions at the parish council, district, state and regional level including two years as Oklahoma State Deputy achieving the Circle of Honor during fraternal year 2010-2011. As Immediate Past State Deputy, he led the Oklahoma KofC response to the May 20, 2013 tornado disaster relief efforts. This response included the very successful collaboration with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Catholic Charities in the House in a Box program. Since the end of his term as Oklahoma KofC State Deputy, he served as State Ceremonials Chairman which involved the implementation of the redesigned formation and knighthood degrees. He served many years on the 4 th Degree Exemplification team. Finally, he served four years as Vice Supreme Master of Our Lady of Guadalupe Province over all of Texas and Oklahoma.
David always claimed that the Knights of Columbus made him a better son, a better husband, a better father, and a better Catholic. A very humble man devoted to Christian service, he took to heart the command to "wash the feet of those the Lord places before you." In helping those less fortunate, he sought to do so in ways that allowed the recipient to maintain his or her feelings of self-worth and dignity.
Although David's departure leaves a huge hole in the hearts of all those who knew him, we also know that his faith and actions guarantee him every blessing on the other side.
David was preceded in death by his father Henry, his brother Paul, and grandparents Andrew and Agatha Roewe and Prosper and Irene Gallant. He is survived by his wife, Melani of the home; daughter Jaciel (Randy) Berry, Edmond, OK; Andrew (Kimberly) Roewe, Quincy, IL, and his three granddaughters; mother, Shirley, OKC, OK; sisters Monica (Matt) Wenthold, Denton, TX; Susan (David) Long, Norman, OK; Nancy (Steve) Klabo, Bismarck, ND; brother Michael (Barbara) Roewe, Woodlawn Park, OK; sister-in-law Teresa Warner, OKC, OK; his aunt Ruth Gallant, Norman, OK, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Rosary and Vigil service will be Thursday, August 17, 6:00 pm at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly, Edmond, OK, 73003. Funeral Mass will be Friday, August 18, at 10 am at St. Monica Catholic Church, 2001 N. Western, Edmond, OK, 73012 followed by internment with full military honors at St. Patrick's Cemetery, 0.5 miles W of the intersection of Sorghum Mill & Council Roads. Arrangements handled by Matthews Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation to either the US Marine Toys for Tots program or the US Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation (which provides education aid to the children of fallen Marines) are suggested options.
