David Dean Webb

1940 – 2023

With somber hearts, we recall the life and legacy of David Dean Webb, a beloved husband, dedicated academic, devoted father, and accomplished real estate broker. David peacefully departed in his slumber on August 6, 2023, at the age of 83. Born in Lawton, Oklahoma, in August 1940, David's life was a testament to his unwavering commitment to knowledge,  family, and meaningful service. David's parents, L.D. Webb and Bernice Dorothy Durrett Webb Mannen, both educators, instilled in him a passion for learning.

He attended Columbia Christian Grammar School in Portland, Oregon, and later graduated from David Lipscomb High School. His thirst for knowledge led him to earn an Associate's degree from Oklahoma Christian College, a bachelor's degree from Pepperdine University, and a distinguished Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma. During his time at the prestigious and ironically conservative, Oklahoma Christian College, David found love, Mary Lynne Norris. After a period of courting, they married on January 30th, 1962, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, a testament to their enduring love and companionship. Together, they raised two sons, David Darren Webb and William Dean Webb.

David's academic pursuits led him to become a professor at the University of Central Oklahoma, where he shared his passion for American History, particularly the New Deal era for over four decades. He also excelled in the world of real estate, serving as a skilled broker and salesman for 50 years, starting his own company, Century 21 Mark V in 1981.

David's lively personality and insatiable appetite for reading found their  match only in his knack for captivating conversation, able to engage anyone who crossed his path. His quick wit and humor remained a steady presence, complimented by his robust voice that could fill a room and his uncanny ability at a moment's notice, to release a whistle that could cut through the sound barrier. A devoted member of the Dayspring Church of Christ, David's impact extended beyond academia and real estate. His charitable endeavors, and church involvement were meaningful.

David Dean Webb is survived by four siblings, Sarah Cooper, Joy Rousseau, Melody Murray and Stephen Shelby; as well as his sons, David Darren Webb and William Dean Webb, as well as his cherished grandchildren: Brayden Campbell, Chase and Lauren McPherson, Nor Shifaa Webb, Malik Webb, Ayla Webb, and Lana Webb.

His legacy of love, learning, and laughter lives on in the hearts and minds of all who knew him.

As we honor his memory, let us reflect on his enduring impact and the love he shared. May he find eternal peace, knowing that his legacy will continue to inspire for generations to come.
