Delmont “Del” Knights was born on March 19, 1934, in Enfield, Maine, where he was raised. It was there, at just 16 years old, that he met the love of his life, Anne Twombly. What began in those early years grew into a lifelong partnership defined by deep love, unwavering support, and shared adventure. No matter where life led, Anne was always at the center of Del’s world.
After graduating from high school, Del joined the United States Air Force, beginning a lifetime of travel and exploration that extended far beyond his military service. During his time in the Air Force, he was stationed in Japan, Korea, and Australia.
Following his service, Del attended East Coast Aero Tech. Upon graduation, he worked for American Airlines before joining Avco, where he contributed to manufacturing nose cones for the space program. Recognizing early on the promise of technology, Del returned to school at Lowell Tech, earning a degree in computer science. He went on to work in the computer division at Honeywell, later Seagate, which ultimately brought him to Oklahoma City, where he finished his career with Fujitsu.
While living in Oklahoma, Del rejoined the Air National Guard and served as a flight engineer on C-130 aircraft. Both his military and professional careers took him around the world—from the Far East to Europe, South America, and Africa—but no matter how far he traveled, his greatest joy was always returning home to Anne and their family.
In 1958, Del and Anne were married, beginning a beautiful life together that spanned decades. They raised three children and built a family rooted in love and laughter. Del was a proud grandfather of four and a great-grandfather of six. His family was the center of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
In retirement, Del enjoyed winters skiing in Colorado and summers at his boyhood home on the lake in Maine. Del lived a full and meaningful life, defined by love, adventure, and a deep devotion to his family—especially to the girl he met in Maine, who remained the love of his life always.
He is survived by his wife, Anne; his children, Tammy and Thomas Parkhurst, Andrew Knights, and Sarah Sowinski; his grandchildren, James and Paige Durant, Danielle Knights, Zachary and Taylor Parkhurst, and Benjamin and Chloe Parkhurst; and six great-grandchildren.
