Delores J. Smith

1954 – 2021

Delores Jean (Lyons) Smith was born to Tracy and Ruby (Lake) Lyons on December 8, 1954 in Springfield, Illinois. She passed from this life on December 16, 2021, in Edmond, Oklahoma.

While attending John Marshall High School, she met Harold Smith at her father's service station on Britton Road in Oklahoma City. They married in 1974.

We're pretty sure God made Delores to be a mother and grandmother. Her boys were the light of her life, and she was the light of theirs. You could see the smile of mischief when she was trying to sneak them treats from her purse or let them do something they weren't supposed to.

She would say that's what grandmas are for, and she extended that love to the children at church. She always had candy for them and enjoyed teaching Bible class so she could spend extra time with the kids.

Her grandsons, Alex, Rafe and Dixon were the light of her life. She loved caring for them, playing with them and just being there.

Delores grew up wanting to be a model, but after her son Matt was born, she was up for any adventure. Matt found a love of horses, and Delores found it too. They went together on many trail rides and rode in parades.

Even when a horse threw her off, and she dislocated her shoulder, she still continued riding. But that was Delores. She may not have looked the part, but she was tough. If she made up her mind to do something, that was exactly what she was going to do.

She loved fun, but Delores was also a selfless servant. She was constantly concerned about the wellbeing of others, especially her family and friends.

In this life, Delores looked forward to paradise. She often talked about running away to Bora Bora. We take comfort in knowing that she is in paradise, a paradise more glorious than we can imagine now. She is no longer a prisoner of her body. Today, she is running with the Lord.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents Tracy and Ruby Lyons.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Harold; her son Matt Smith and his wife Rachel; grandsons Alex Smith and his wife Brittany, Rafe Smith and Dixon Smith. She is also survived by her sister Tracey Nance and brother Scott Lyons.

When Delores talked on the phone to people she loved, she rarely said goodbye. She was just gone. It was almost as if she didn't like goodbyes. It was more of a see you later. Her death was much the same. She was just gone. We'll see you later, Grandma. We love you.
