Dennis Glenn Jones, 83, husband of 59 years to Helen, father, grandfather, long-time insurance representative and Edmond resident, passed from this life peacefully at home on Monday, April 13, 2026. Dennis was born on March 14, 1943, to Roscoe and Lillian Jones in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He attended all grades in Okmulgee and graduated high school with the class of 1961. He was student body president his senior year. He was a great athlete, competing in several varsity sports, but his best was football. Upon graduation he attended Fort Scott Junior College in Kansas on scholarship. He was honored in 1962 as National Junior College All-American quarterback, 2nd team. He then transferred to Central State College (CSC) in Edmond, Oklahoma in 1963 and played quarterback and defensive back.
It was at CSC that he met Helen Skoch in 1965 who became the love of his life. They were married on December 17, 1966. While at CSC, Dennis joined the U.S. Navy Reserve and in 1967 he commenced a two-year active duty aboard the U.S.S. Hopewell with one tour in Vietnam. Dennis and Helen’s first child, Kimberli Dyan, was born in Oklahoma City in 1967 while he was overseas. They then lived in San Diego, California while Dennis completed his active duty. Their son, Kevin Douglas, was born in 1971 upon their return to Edmond.
Dennis enjoyed a couple of occupations while attending college. He spent 2 years at Putnam City High School as a custodian while attending Central State College. He enjoyed a great rapport with students and faculty. Upon return from the service, he spent two enjoyable years as quality control technician for Lonestar Brewing Company of OKC. He was the hit of his college apartments when he brought home his monthly two cases of beer!
Dennis only had two major careers during his lifetime. He had an urge to become an FBI agent but instead became a detective for Pinkerton’s National Detective Agency. He was eventually the local Oklahoma City office Manager of Investigations.
In 1977, he became an agent for Mark Twain Life Insurance Company in Oklahoma City. He took over the Oklahoma City metropolitan area as district manager. Beginning in 1980, and during his tenure, he became the only agent to achieve the Diamond Award five times. Mark Twain Life became UICI and he continued with them until the company ceased operations. He then worked as an independent insurance agent until retirement.
Dennis coached his son’s little league baseball teams throughout the late 70’s and early 80’s. He also spent countless hours practicing with Kevin who played multiple sports in middle school and high school.
Dennis and Helen enjoyed traveling by car together. They traveled all over the United States. They even took a trip of a lifetime to Europe in 2019 visiting Italy, Austria, Germany, and Czechoslovakia, Helen’s country of heritage. He was a great slow-pitch softball player and enjoyed playing well into his forties. He also enjoyed playing and watching golf. As life-long OU Sooners fans, he and Helen attended many football games, home and away.
Dennis was a friend to many, and he actively gathered people together for reunions including friends from high school, teammates from junior college and CSC.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Helen; daughter Kimberli McLennan (Chuck) and their children Brynn Storm (Zach), Blaine Hopkins (Madison) all of Edmond, Oklahoma, CJ McLennan (Katy), Jade Hayes (Larry) of Louisiana, and Connor McLennan (Rachelle) of Mississippi; son Kevin Jones (Rachellee) and daughters Madeline and Emma of Dallas, Texas; great grandchildren Miller, Charlie, and Maddy McLennan and Tripp Hayes; brother Don Jones (Melanie) of Littleton, Colorado and several nieces and nephews.
