Don Gammill
1952-2017
Don Gammill passed away unexpectedly at his home in Edmond, OK on November 28th, 2017 at the age of 65. Don was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and most of all, he was an incredible friend.
Don's journey began on November 12th, 1952 in Ponca City, OK. Born to Irene Gammill-Hazen and ZL Gammill, he was an only child. After his father passed, he was blessed with a loving step-father and lifelong mentor, Bob Hazen. Don grew up in Ponca City and attended Ponca City High School, where he met his sweetheart, Becky, both attending the graduating class of 1971. He attended Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, married the love of his life in 1974, and finished his degree at Central State University in Edmond, graduating class of 1975. Don studied journalism and pursued his writing career for many years before changing paths and venturing into real estate.
During his journalism career, he was recognized and given many awards for his work. He taught News Room 101, and enjoyed working with high school students to further develop their skills. He also kept a weekly column in the paper, and enjoyed spending his free time reading and researching many topics to further educate himself.
Don and Becky were able to spend 43 years together celebrating their marriage, and poking fun at each other about the plastic wedding ring he got out of a gum ball machine and gave to her so many years before putting a real diamond on her finger.
Don enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and most of all, his pup Evie. He was an avid sports fan, favoring the OU Sooners and the Oklahoma City Thunder. He loved to tell fart jokes, and tell stories about his childhood, and his life as a father and as a grandfather.
Don is survived by his spouse, Becky Gammill, son, Bryan Gammill and wife, Kristy Gammill, his grandchildren, Sydney, Liam, Anna, and Caleb, his new great-grandson, Madden, and sweet loving dog, Evie, along with many other family members and friends.
He was predeceased by his father, ZL Gammill, his mother, Irene Hazen, and step-father, Bob Hazen.
The memorial service will be held on December 3rd at 2:00pm.
