Dorothy M. Rupe
1920-2014
Dorothy M. Rupe, 94, Edmond, died June 12, 2014 in Oklahoma City. She was born on May 14, 1920 in Bucklin, Kansas and grew up in Garden City, Kansas where her family owned and operated Gardiner Dairy and Ice Cream Company.
She graduated from the University of Kansas and moved to Oklahoma City where she was first employed by Secor Construction Company. She married Al Rupe on January 31, 1954. During their life together, she and Al built a beautiful Angus farm northeast of Edmond where they welcomed friends and family for over 40 years. Until her retirement, Dorothy also worked for Keller Williams Furniture in Edmond. Dorothy and Al celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2004.
In her later years, Dorothy was an active member of the Touchmark at Coffee Creek Retirement community, as well as the First United Methodist Church of Edmond. Dorothy is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Beckie Bigler of Edmond and Beverly Morgan of Lawrence, KS. She was preceded in death by her husband, siblings, and infant son.
In her honor, the family will receive friends from 2-3:30 p.m. on Monday, June 16, at Matthews Funeral Home, Edmond. The family suggests memorials in her name to the Music Ministry of the First United Methodist Church or a charity of choice, in care of Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly Ave., Edmond, OK 73003.
