Douglas Ray Hacking, 55, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on September 27, 2026, leaving behind a family, a community of friends, and countless others whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
Doug was born on March 30, 1971, in Las Vegas, Nevada, to Douglas J. Hacking and Marcy Stead. He graduated from Edmond High School in 1989 before earning his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Oklahoma in 2000 and his Master of Business Administration from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2005.
Doug dedicated more than 25 years to the pharmacy profession, serving as a pharmacist, pharmacy manager, mentor, and leader. Throughout his career, he earned numerous awards recognizing his leadership, training, and commitment to excellence, including the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center’s Preceptor of the Year award and CVS’s Paragon and Regional Preceptor awards.
But Doug’s ambitions and interests extended far beyond his profession. He was an author, entrepreneur, speaker, and lifelong creator who was endlessly curious about people, relationships, and the possibilities of human connection.
He founded Relationship Resonance, an organization centered on building meaningful relationships and helping people achieve their potential. He authored Relationship Resonance and created the Ripple Effect conference, bringing people together to share ideas, experiences, and stories that could inspire positive change in the lives of others. Doug believed deeply that one person’s influence could extend far beyond what they might ever see.
That belief was reflected in the way he lived. He was passionate about mentoring others, developing leaders, building relationships, and encouraging people to recognize their own potential. Whether through his professional work, his writing, his speaking engagements, or everyday conversations, Doug had a gift for connecting with people.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Doug embraced life with curiosity, humor, and enthusiasm. He loved cycling, ballroom dancing, drumming, writing, traveling, and spending time outdoors. He was adventurous, ambitious, creative, and rarely without a new idea or something he wanted to explore. He brought laughter, warmth, and what his family lovingly described as an entire “spice cabinet” of personality into their lives.
Above all, Doug loved his family. He shared 19 years of marriage with his beloved wife, MaryAnn, and was a devoted husband and a loving father to Alex (Meredith), Mason, and Jacob. He embraced fatherhood wholeheartedly, including the special bond he shared with Alex, whom he loved and raised as his own. He took great joy in his children and the life he and MaryAnn built together.
Doug also treasured his extended family and the connections that brought generations together. Affectionately known as the family’s “head cousin,” he encouraged family gatherings, strengthened relationships, and helped keep the bonds of family alive. His family was not simply an important part of his life; it was at the heart of who he was. He shared a close father-son bond with his stepfather, Charlie Utley, who was a loving and enduring father figure in his life.
Doug will be remembered for his intelligence, sensitivity, humor, creativity, ambition, and generous heart. He was a man of many accomplishments, but those accomplishments alone could never capture his true value. His greatest gifts were found in the love he shared, the people he encouraged, the laughter he inspired, and the relationships he nurtured.
He is survived by his beloved wife, MaryAnn; his three children, Alex (Meredith), Mason, and Jacob; his mother, Marcy Utley; his mother-in-law, Leslie Weaver; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Nathan Willis, Katie and Chris Balisky, William and Summer Weaver, and Ethan Weaver; his uncles, Mike and Perry Hacking; and numerous cousins, extended family members, dear friends, colleagues, and others whose lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his father, Douglas J. Hacking, and his beloved stepfather, Charles “Charlie” Utley.
Doug spent much of his life exploring the power of human connection and the positive ripple effect one person can have on the world. The outpouring of love from his family, friends, colleagues, and community is a testament to the life he lived and the relationships he built.
Doug’s ripple is everywhere. His love, influence, and memory will continue through the countless lives he touched.
A memorial service honoring Doug’s life will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Central Time at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly Avenue, Edmond, OK 73003. Burial will follow at Gracelawn Cemetery, 1407 N. Boulevard, Edmond, OK 73034.
