Earl Thomas Pinegar

Earl Thomas Pinegar was born October 27, 1954, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, to Charles E. and Grace L. Pinegar and departed life on April 13, 2025, in Edmond, Oklahoma. Earl attended Ponca City Public Schools and graduated in 1972; and was baptized into the Woodlands Christian Church. Earl attended Central State University because of its computer science program and graduated in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics, where he also was a member of the TKE Fraternity. Following graduation, Earl began his career with United Transport in Oklahoma City in its newly established computer department. At that time, work was done on a Unisys computer with large tape drives. Earl filled every position in the IT department including nighttime operator, programmer, lead programmer, system analyst, and enterprise architect, among others. Earl and his family moved to Kansas City, Kansas, in 1997, when the company was sold to Jack Cooper Transport. He retired in 2017 after having served as Director of Information Systems.

Earl married Dana Hicks on June 18, 1977, and they had two sons, Andrew and David, and lived in Edmond, Oklahoma, for 20 years before moving to Kansas. Earl was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed following the UCO Bronchos basketball and football, OU Sooners, and the Kansas City Chiefs and Royal teams. Earl spent many years enjoying golf and was a member of the Oklahoma City Pickleball Club. He always kept his motorcycle endorsement license current and enjoyed the opportunity to ride motorcycles. His favorite activity with the boys was boating and water skiing. Earl particularly enjoyed musical concerts – among his favorite performers were many Country Western artists including Willie Nelson, Alan Jackson, George Strait, Martina McBride, Darius Rucker, and Chris Issak, as well as James Taylor, Paul McCartney, and Asleep at the Wheel. Other interests included travel in the United States and internationally while his favorite was the beach and scuba diving. He was an avid reader and enjoyed movies and jigsaw puzzles. Earl excelled at candy-making, with his specialty being chocolate truffles.

After retirement, Earl and Dana returned to Edmond. He is survived by his wife Dana, his sons Andrew Pinegar of Roeland Park, KS, and David Pinegar of Wichita, KS; two granddaughters, Hurley Pinegar and Reese Pinegar of Wichita, KS. Also, two nieces, Lisa Kelly of Bartlesville, OK, and Terry Strah of Ponca City, OK, and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Dan.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on June 6, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Matthew Funeral Home located at 601 S. Kelly Ave, Edmond, OK, 73003
