Edith Lorraine Smiley (Lehman) Newman. 1971-2017.

Edie was born at East Town osteopathic hospital in Dallas Texas on 19 October 1971 to Vivian Lorraine Smith and Harrell Wayne smiley.

A transplanted Texan, Edith was living in Oklahoma City with her husband Shane Gary Newman and her daughter Ellen Lorraine Newman. She had spent the last 3 and a half weeks at Integris Baptist Medical Center. After 3 weeks in the cardiac ICU she chose the day and time of her passing. At 12:55 on the afternoon of Sunday, 20 August 2017. Edie died peacefully in her sleep with her mother and husband holding her hands, that her mother-in-law Mary Newman, sister-in-law, Lisa Slaton and her Bishop, Marc Knudsen in attendance. Some of her last words included it was "time for her to go", and she wanted us to "celebrate".

Edith was first and foremost a wife and mother and was a natural-born nurturer. She worked several years as a paraprofessional at Buchanan Elementary School in Oklahoma City, teaching and caring for special needs students. She loved her family & her Church, audio books & movies, family history and almost any type of crafting, including crochet, baking, art, calligraphy and more. She is survived by her husband, Shane Gary Newman, her 2 daughter's Ellen Lorraine Newman of Oklahoma City and Josie Byrd Newman of Rocky Top Tennessee & her grandson Lamarion McKlay Byrd; her mother Vivian Lorraine Smith Lehman, and her grandparents Charlie Lee Smith & Edith Geraldine Heflin Smith of Balch Springs Texas; her 4 brothers, Harrell Wayne Smiley II of Royse City Texas, John Anthony Smiley of Mesquite Texas, Charlie Thomas Smiley of Balch Springs Texas and Christopher Lee Smiley of Alva Oklahoma. Also by her loving step siblings, Patricia Lehman Briggs, Paul Daniel Lehman, Debra Lynn Lehman Stienfels of Springtown Texas, Willard Donald Lehman Junior Balch Springs Texas, Janette Marie Lehman Love of Shawnee Oklahoma, Alice Catherine Lehman of Mesquite Texas, and Norman Leroy Lehman of Arkansas. Also numerous in-laws, Aunts, Uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and too many others to list here. Edith is pre deceased by her beloved stepfather, Willard Donald Lehman senior, and Gary James Newman also by her Aunt Dorothy Charlene Smith, nephews Spencer Whitney & David Wayne Whitney, niece Candace Smith, and sister-in-laws Susan Mae Smiley & Judy Newman.

Her funeral is being handled by the Matthews Funeral Home of Edmond Oklahoma and she will be laid to rest at Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond Oklahoma. There will be a memorial service held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 5020 Northwest 63rd Street, Oklahoma City from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, the 24th of August 2017. Floral tributes should be sent to the funeral home (she didn't like roses).
