Emma Jean Smith
1932-2014
Emma Jean Smith, Edmond, Oklahoma left to meet with her waiting loved ones on January 14, 2014.
She was born on August 5, 1932 in Arcadia, Oklahoma to Thomas C. and Blanche Prewitt. She graduated from Arcadia High School in 1950 and later married her former classmate, Leeman B. Smith. She was employed at Southwestern Bell and retired after thirty years of service. She resided in Edmond for many years before moving to Legend at Rivendell, an assisted living center in southwest Oklahoma City.
Emma Jean and her husband were longtime members of Henderson Hills Baptist church in Edmond before she became a member of Quail Springs Baptist Church in her later years. Her membership at Quail Springs Baptist meant a great deal to her.
Emma was a loving and dedicated caregiver for her mother, father and husband during each of their later years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leeman B. Smith, her mother Blanche Prewitt, her father Thomas Prewitt and her two brothers, Harold Prewitt and Jamie Leon Prewitt. She is survived by sister, Evelyn George and her husband Dick of Blanchard, Oklahoma, sister Teresa King of Edmond, OK, niece Tara Walker and her husband Mike of Oklahoma City, OK, nephew Eric King of Edmond, OK and nephew Richard Walker and his wife Misty of Elmore city, OK. Also surviving are four grand nieces, one grand nephew, two great grand nieces and two great grand nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Legend at Rivendell for their kindness and care during the last three years and Valir Hospice for their care during Emma's last several days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Condolences may be sent to Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-8:00 p.m. Friday, January 17
