Florence "Sally" Fitzgerald
Florence "Sally" Fitzgerald was born Jan. 19, 1924, in Roland, Iowa, the daughter of Sherman and Rena Ericson. She died on July 17, 2015.
She was graduated from Roland High School in 1942. She attended Drake University and the University of Central Oklahoma.
On July 2, 1949, she was married to Donald Fitzgerald in Roland, Iowa.
Following their marriage they lived in various communities where Donald was a professor of Physics at Arizona State University, San Jose State University, and at University of Central Oklahoma while she worked as a departmental secretary for Women's Physical Education at the University of Iowa, the Art Department of Arizona State University, and in the Graduate Office at U.C.O. She also did market research for the Mercury News in San Jose, California.
While they lived in Edmond, Oklahoma, she wrote a column called "Eco Tips" for the Edmond Sun newspaper. It ran from 1971-1972.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, and her parents. She is survived by six nieces and nephews: Susan Sheets of Alexandria, Virginia, Don Sheets of Wayland, Iowa, Michael Fitzgerald of Spanish Fork, Utah, Patricia Sporer of Gainesport, New Jersey, David Fitzgerald of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and Mary Jung of Salisburg, North Carolina.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 24, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Bradford Village Assisted Living in Edmond, OK. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery, Union, Iowa.
