Frances Louise Williams Palmer

1927-2019

Frances Palmer, 92, passed into the presence of her Lord on May 26, 2019, from her home in Edmond, Oklahoma. She was born May 10, 1927 in Barnesville, Georgia to Howard Tillman Williams and Jessie Kate (Sims) Williams.

Frances attended Gordon Military College in Barnesville. The family moved to Atlanta, Georgia when Frances was 14, where she later graduated from Girls High.

Following a brief career of secretarial work, Frances married William D. (Bill) Palmer on December 28, 1947. It was then her joy to work in the home raising their family of six children. Moving from Georgia to Baltimore to Dallas and back to Baltimore, Frances always made time to teach at church. She taught every age group from babies to senior adult ladies (except for senior high school). She was also actively engaged in the work of The Gideons International Auxiliary.

In 2005, she and Bill moved to Edmond, Oklahoma to be close to family members. She always looked for ways to minister to people, and soon became involved with filling shoeboxes with her friends for Samaritans Purse's Operation Christmas Child. In her nineties, she surprised herself by becoming an author with her memoir, "Frances Remembers."

Survivors include children Richard A. Palmer of Greenville, SC, Dorothy Palmer Young (and son-in-law Robert) of Edmond, Walter E. Palmer (and daughter-in-law Mary) of Wilmington, NC, Thomas W. Palmer (and daughter-in-law Ginny) of Athens, AL, Raymond H. Palmer (a.k.a. Athelstan) of Edmond, Virginia F. King (and son-in-law Kerry) of Niceville, FL, sixteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, William D. (Bill) Palmer, her parents, brothers Hoyt, George, and David, and granddaughter Katherine L. Young.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Gideon's International, PO Box 1944, Edmond, OK 73083.

The family will be receiving guests at Matthews Funeral Home from 2 to 6 pm Sunday. Funeral services will be held at Matthews Chapel in Edmond, at 10 am Monday June 3, 2019.
