Frank B. Hamar, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on April 12, 2026 at the age of 86. Born in Clovis, New Mexico, Frank led a life filled with love, hard work, and unwavering dedication to his family, especially his high school sweetheart and wife, Ava, with whom he shared over 68 wonderful years of marriage.
A true handyman extraordinaire, Frank had a knack for fixing anything—often without reading the instructions, much to the amusement and chagrin of all. An avid fisherman, nothing brought him greater joy than waking up on a crisp Colorado morning, knocking the ice off the boat seats, and heading out with family to fish at the picturesque Vallecito Lake in Southwest Colorado. He cherished teaching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren the art of fishing with the stunning backdrop of Colorado snow-capped mountains and the not so stunning backdrop of the Texas plains!
Frank’s competitive spirit came alive during late-night card and domino games (42 and International Rummy especially!) with family, which were competitive and full of laughter. His bright eyes, mischievous smile, and hearty laugh will forever be cherished.
All admired him for his kindness, selflessness, humor, and unwavering loyalty—not only to his family but also to his favorite sports teams, the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys. Nothing brought him more joy than sitting in the stands alongside Ava, cheering enthusiastically for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren during their games and competitions. It was always clear who Frank’s favorite players were.
Frank’s careers and worklife included serving behind several grocery store meat counters and 25 years working in the oil and gas industry in various roles including jug-hustler, permit man and party manager – all very colorful names for extremely demanding positions!
Frank will be deeply missed by his family, especially his wife, Ava; his wonderful children and their spouses, Valerie and Brent and Victor and LeAnn; his incredible grandchildren, Ryan, Brady, Aubrey, and Tyler along with their spouses Kati, Courtney, Joe and very-soon-to-be Allison; his amazing great-grandchildren, Brayden, Kinsley, Beckett, Banks, Clara and Vince. Frank shared a special bond with his sisters and brothers, Viona, Ina Mae, June and Roger and their wonderful spouses and their wonderful spouses Bob, Clay, Claude and Dona. They all played a significant role in his upbringing and affectionately nicknamed him "Cub" at birth due to the hair on his back! Frank dearly loved his nieces and nephews who have all remained in close contact over the decades.
Frank accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior early in life and remained a believer throughout his life. His legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire us every day.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers from Home Instead and Kindful Hospice.
A private family service to honor Frank’s life will be held at a later date.
