Fred Charter, Jr.
1930-2018
Fred Charter Jr., 87, of Oklahoma City, joined his beloved wife Marilyn of 49 years and many other family members and friends in Heaven on April 5 th , 2018.
Fred was born September 10, 1930 in Maumee Ohio. He was the youngest of 5 children. He graduated from Maumee High School where he played basketball and lettered in track. After High School he entered the U.S. Navy Reserves before enlisting in the U.S. Navy where he served as a radar man aboard the U.S.S. Newport News. After the Navy he went into retail sales and became a buyer at Tiedtkes Department Store and later a drapery buyer at Lasalles Department Store in Ohio. In 1970 he took a job as a buyer at John A Brown's Department Store in Oklahoma City. In 1981 he left the retail business and joined the family business MFT Bookkeeping Services. He later decided to go back into retail sales at Dillard's Department Store. Fred loved the retail industry because he was a people person with an outgoing, funny and friendly personality.
With his first wife Shirley Stickles he was blessed with three boys Fred, Stephen & Ted. In 1959 he married Marilyn Russell and had three sons Russell, Richard & Timothy. Fred was in a square-dancing group for years, shared time with friends at morning coffee clubs, loved to read and attend church.
Fred will be greatly missed by his family including his sons Steve, Ted, Russ, Rick, Tim and his daughter-in-laws, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel 601 S. Kelly Edmond Oklahoma and interment to follow at Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond, OK.
