George Marvin Emerson, 61, of Edmond, Oklahoma, peacefully passed from this life on Monday, December 29, 2025 at his home.
George was born on March 9, 1964, to Marvin and GeorgeEtta Emerson in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where he grew up with his sister Caroline. George was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma at age 19, which he fought and defeated. He subsequently attended the University of Oklahoma, where he joined the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and received his Juris Doctor degree from the OU College of Law. He went on to have a successful career at Riggs, Abney, Neal, Turpen, Orbison, and Lewis for over 37 years.
He met the love of his life, Dianne, in the spring of 1991, and married her on April 3, 1993. Dianne gave birth to their first child, Lauren, on November 11, 1999. On March 20, 2002, Dianne gave birth to James, Rebecca, and Brian. George and Dianne never had a dull moment between family outings, little league and soccer games, sleep overs, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, music lessons, and more. George was quick-witted and could see the humor in any situation, and he was always making people laugh, whether they were family, friends, or complete strangers. He was a lifelong OU football fan as well as a great lover of history. He passed on his love of history to his children, and most family vacations featured outings to historical battlefields and forts. George was a connoisseur of chocolate brownies and Sprite, but his favorite dessert was always the buttermilk brownies that his aunt Rose and aunt Imogene would make.
George is survived by his wife, Dianne, of nearly 33 years, and his children, Lauren, James, Rebecca, and Brian. He is also survived by his sister, Caroline Mitchell, and husband, Brooks, daughter Charlotte and her husband Peter Duyshart, and daughter Laura.
George is preceded in death by his father, Marvin, and his mother, GeorgeEtta. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
A Memorial Service in George's Honor is to be held 10:00 A.M. on Saturday January 10, 2026 at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel, 601 S. Kelly Ave, Edmond, OK 73003.
