Georgia Ann Shipman

1939 – 2024

Georgia (Jo) Ann Shipman, age 85, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on October 9th, 2024. Georgia was born March 22nd, 1939, to Henry and Rosie Patak in Ennis, Texas. She grew up in a predominantly Czech community with her siblings; Henry (Hank), Margaret, and Irene. She would often speak about her Czech heritage and loved passing down family recipes that she had been taught by her mother. After graduating from Siloam Springs High School, she was introduced to Bobby Shipman on a blind, double date. They married in August of 1958 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Tulsa, OK.

Jo then began her inspiring career path by graduating Daughons Business School of Tulsa in 1960; she would go on to work as the Office Director for Mack Trucks for over twenty years. Bob and Jo grew their family with three wonderful children David, Brenda, and Richard. They enjoyed spending weekends together water skiing and camping throughout Oklahoma. It continues to bring her family great pride that Jo was so exemplary in her dedication as a working mother. After retiring in 1987, Jo spent decades RVing, boating, and fishing with her family. In 1993, Bob and Jo hand-built their dream home in Park Hill, Oklahoma. They spent many years participating in the Cookson St. John's church community and hosting their grandchildren for lakehouse celebrations. Jo and her husband had an abundance of close family members in Stilwell, Oklahoma, whom they treasured and spent countless days visiting. She enjoyed traveling to Bluegrass festivals, making her grandchildren their favorite meals, and hosting domino nights with friends. In 2005, Jo moved to Edmond, OK to be closer to her children. She loved attending the events of her grandchildren, continuing in her dedication to the church, and weekend trips to Tulsa to visit her dear brother Hank, frequenting Polka dancing events together.

In her later years, Jo moved in with her daughter Brenda, where she spent two years in her continuous care. Her Catholic faith was a constant in her life. She spent immeasurable hours praying for beloved family and reflecting on her blessings. In her final days, Jo was unwavering in her devotion to Jesus Christ and her faith in everlasting life. Her memory will be cherished by her surviving family members: siblings, Hank Patak, Margaret Bolen, and Irene Douglas, daughter Brenda (Ron) Holliefield, son Richard (Sheri) Shipman, grandchildren Dacia Alexander, Savanah (Josh) Turmel, Marissa (George) Meiwes, Matthew (Tressa) Shipman, and great-grandchildren Izel, Eliana, Cualli, Ezekiel, Andrew, and Luke. She is preceded in heaven by her parents Henry and Rosie Patak, her husband of 47 years Bobby Shipman, and her son David Shipman. Georgia will remain in our hearts and memories always. May she rest in peace with her Savior.

Services will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 900 S Littler Ave, Edmond, OK 73034. Interment will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery, 7500 W Britton Rd, Oklahoma City, OK 73132.
