Gladys J. Anderson
Gladys was born September 16, 1929, to Dolen Leonard Thatcher and Martha Lillian Thatcher in Muskogee, Oklahoma, the second of three daughters. Her family moved to Ringling, Oklahoma when Gladys was five years old. She attended Mountain Home School (at Ringling) and graduated High School there in 1947 as Valedictorian of her class. Upon graduation she moved to Oklahoma City, took a business course and went to work. In 1948, Kinneth Anderson (whom she had dated in high school) returned to Oklahoma from California and they married that year. They were married 58 years until Kinneth's death in 2006. They had one daughter, Deborah Lynn Anderson Danvers, who lives in Edmond. Kinneth and Gladys had a cabin on Lake Eufaula and after retirement spent many years boating, skiing, fishing, and relaxing. They also bowled and played a little golf. Gladys loved decorating her home, having a garden, tending to her flower beds, family reunions, and eating out. She loved to sew, making clothes for herself, and her daughter. She dabbled in oil painting (taking courses), crochet, knitting, macrame, and decorating.
Gladys is preceded in death by her husband Kinneth, her parents Dolen and Lillian Thatcher, a sister Maxine Miller of Garland, Texas, son-in-law Doug Danvers of Edmond, Oklahoma, a half-sister Hazel Bray Wood of McAlester, Oklahoma, sister-in-law Lorena Looper and husband William, Lotella Gray and husband Cliff, Otella Allen and husband Raymond. She is survived by her daughter Deborah Lynn Danvers of Edmond, a sister Ada Helterbrand of Argyle, Texas, nephews Mark Helterbrand of Plano, Texas and Mark Allen of Durant, Oklahoma, Nieces April Vineyard of Argyle, Texas, Kay Singletary of Austin, Texas, Carol Neff of Wilmington, Delaware, great nephews Cole and Will Helterbrand, Robert Stirling Vineyard, Jarrod Miller, Cameron and Jason Allen, Ryan Watkins, and great nieces Lilly Smith Vineyard and Anna J. Helterbrand.
Services will be held Thursday, May 1, 2025, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Matthews Funeral Home Chapel in Edmond, Oklahoma. Interment will be held Thursday, May 1, 2025 beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
