Glenn Frederick St. John

1925-2020

Glenn Frederick St. John, beloved husband, father, papa, brother, and uncle, completed his earthly journey on Monday, November 23, 2020, at the age of 95.   Glenn was born on August 2, 1925, in Wamego, KS to Fred and Penelope St. John.   Following high school, Glenn enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he served on the U.S.S.  Phillip.   After the war, he returned home to Topeka, KS and entered Washburn University where he completed his Bachelor of Business Administration degree.    He met Doris Diepenbrock, who would then become his wife of 54 years until her passing.  Glenn and Doris moved to Galveston, TX where Glenn pursued a long term career with American National Life & Accident Insurance Company as a Personnel Director.   He was later promoted and transferred to their Oklahoma City office, Standard Life and Accident company where he served as Vice President of Home Office Services and worked with an amazing group of people who he developed life long friendships with.

He and Doris settled in Edmond, Oklahoma in 1976 where they raised their three daughters, Susan, Carrie, and Nancy.  Glenn was a devoted family man who was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Edmond since 1977 and also served as a Deacon at the church.    He spent a lot of years devoted to his wife Doris who suffered from MS, and was such a compassionate and caring husband to her.  Once he retired from Standard Life, he became very active with his grade school grandchildren taking them to and from school, making sure they got on the bus, and picking them up when they were sick.    He always had stories to share from that experience!   In Glenn's later years, he was healthy enough to travel all over the US to visit family and friends, and attended the annual Tin Can Sailors conventions, which he really enjoyed.    Glenn is survived by his daughter, Susan Daugherty, her husband Toby, granddaughter Emily Hey, her husband Dustin, great-granddaughter Lilly, granddaughter Katie Ellis, her husband Brent; daughter Carrie Mountford, her husband Derek, granddaughters Madeline & Meredith, grandson, Ryan, daughter Nancy Brown, grandson Austin.   He is also survived by his brother, Dr. Robert St. John, sister-in-law, Jean Hackett, brother and sister-in-law Bob and Janice Diepenbrock, brother-in-law Bud Metzenthein as well as many nieces, nephews and their families that he came to adore.   The family will hold a private service at Memorial Park Cemetery on Friday, November 27th.  A recording of this service will be available for viewing on the funeral home's website the following day.
