Gloria Roxanne McCreary
September 10, 1954 – February 25, 2021
September 10, 1954, a baby girl arrived unexpectedly and much too early. The town was Pleasantville, Ohio. She was born at the home of her parents, Gloria M. and Lloyd Young and older brother, Rudy. Weighing in at just under three pounds, Roxanne's fight for life began.
The Young Family moved to Oklahoma in 1965. Roxanne attended Putnam City West High School where she always reached out to the shy and unpopular classmates. At that time, she was a faithful member of Council Road Baptist Church's Youth Group. After graduation in 1972, she became known as a dependably hard worker while exploring a variety of jobs, including that of a skilled cake decorator. Roxanne moved to Ohio to be near her best friend, her mother. There she met and later married Ray McCreary on August 7, 1977.
Roxanne and Ray came back to Oklahoma to establish a home. She was hired by Edmond Public Schools to work in and finally run the district's central print shop. With mounting health issues, she retired from her position in 1996. They moved to Indiana to be closer to the family and grandchildren she adored. When Ray passed in July of 2011, Roxanne continued her devotion to her family amid growing health problems and the diagnosis of cancer. She received an abundance of love and support from her family there as she began her cancer journey. Southside Baptist Church of South Bend, Indiana was her extended family. She loved them dearly. By August 2017, Roxanne felt led to move to Edmond, Oklahoma to be near her brother. As a resident of Rosewood Manor Apts., her circle of friends grew. Highland Park Baptist Church became her church home and extended family. She eagerly attended Crossings Community Church Edmond Venue Women's Bible Study, ever-growing her circle of beloved friends. In late August 2020, after much prayer and counsel, Roxanne moved to The Lakes to receive hospice care.
Roxanne loved to hold dogs, a winning hand of cards, and a string of fish. The dogs she cuddled. The cards and fish were about "no mercy" bragging rights! She was a friend to everyone while ensuring no one was left out. Her laughter was as big as her sweet spirit and giving heart. She was "Roxanne" to friends and family; "Gloria" to legalese folks.
She was "Aunt Roxie" to her niece and nephews; "Aunt Roxanne" to her eleven great nieces and nephews. She was "Roxie" to her beloved Aunt Alberta. She was "Grandma" to Josh, Amanda, and Sean. She was "Sis" to Rudy. Roxanne had many titles. She cherished most being known as a Child of God.
On February 25, 2021, Roxanne was received into the loving arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior as He welcomed her home.
She is survived by her brother Rudy Young and wife Judy of Edmond; daughter-in-law Alicia Sullivan and husband Allen of Mishawaka, IN; grandchildren Josh, Amanda, and Sean Sullivan of Mishawaka, IN; stepsister Toddy Mello and husband Tony of CA; niece Becky Horton and husband Craig of Edmond and their children Andrew and Marybeth; nephew Ben Young and wife Sarah of Edmond, and their children Rachel, Zoe, Anna, and Mia; nephew Luke Young and wife Angie of Guthrie, OK and their children Parker, Kynlee, Justin, Kolson, and Julia; Aunt Alberta "Bertie" DeVore of Jacksonville, FL; and her many devoted church family members and friends.
