Gus Rallis

1930 – 2023

Gus Rallis was born and raised in Sunset Heights, El Paso, Texas. His parents were Gus Rallis, Sr., and Refugio Rivera. He attended Vilas elementary school, St. Patrick's Parochial School, and graduated from El Paso High School. His undergraduate degree was from the University of Texas at El Paso, and his law degree was from the University of Texas at Austin.

He was an officer in the U.S. Army, was stationed in Berlin, Germany during the "Cold War" and achieved the rank of First Lieutenant.

After his military service and graduation from law school, he returned to El Paso and served initially as an Assistant District Attorney. His later law career included representation of workers before the Industrial Accident Board, representation of labor unions, negotiations with the City of El Paso on behalf of police and firefighter unions, and service as Chairman of the El Paso Housing Authority.

After retiring from his law practice, he went into the real estate development business.  Gus was also Chairman and CEO of Paso del Norte Broadcasting Company (TV 26 and various radio stations), and Chairman and CEO of Pan American Savings & Loan in El Paso.

Gus was preceded in death by his parents, his son William Whiteside Rallis, brothers George Howard, John Rallis, and Ted Rallis, and sisters Estelle Wood, Nina Howard, and Helen Downing. He is survived by his beloved and loving wife Valli Rallis, daughter Anne Rallis, step daughter Maya Castille, and many loving nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Gus was proud of his large and loving family and loved them all dearly!

The family would like to thank the caring staff and residents of Touchmark at Coffee Creek in Edmond, Oklahoma, as well as the caring staff at Mercy Hospital and Mercy Hospice of Oklahoma City, and Baptist Village Rehab Center in Oklahoma City.

Gus will be buried at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, Texas. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, Channing Unitarian Universalist Church in Edmond, Oklahoma, or a charity of one's own choosing.
