Helen Louise Carroll
1936-2018
Helen Louise Carroll passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 81, on January 22, 2018, surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren. Raised on her family farm in Caney, Kansas, Helen was born the third of five children, and enjoyed spending time with her parents, riding her horse, Ribbon, and laughing and shopping with her sisters. While earning her degree at Coffeyville College, Helen met Herman Carroll, and married him one year later, on March 30, 1956, at Tyro Methodist Church in Tyro, Kansas. Helen proudly worked for Southwestern Bell telephone company while in college, and continued as a telephone operator for 5 years in Tulsa. During this time, they welcomed their first child, Kristi. Herman's position at Sun Oil Company moved the growing family around the United States, as Helen had two more daughters, Lisa and Karen, along the way. During their time in Houston, she worked as an Administrative Assistant for an oil company. Helen happily remained a stay-at-home mother through most of her children's lives, before transitioning into a loving and attentive grandmother to 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Helen passed with peace in her heart, knowing she would be reunited with her mom, dad, and sisters in Heaven. She was a devoted Christion who loved reading the Bible, singing hymns, attending church, and leading by example. She will be greatly missed by her family, who will always be grateful to the time, love, and care she put into her relationships. Her daughters and granddaughters strive to live by the principles and love she instilled in them throughout her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and three sisters, Alene Pogue, Lois Testerman, and Colleen Larkin. She is survived by her husband Herman Carroll, three daughters Kristi Kelm, Lisa Doré, and Karen Johnson, and all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Public viewing will be Thursday, January 25, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 26, 2018 at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Gracelawn Cemetery.
