1948 – 2024
Hilbert Allen Hibbs, Junior, a long-time resident of Edmond, Oklahoma, died peacefully in his home on Friday, January 12th at the age of 75. Hilbert was known to all his friends and family as Butch. He was born on September 24th, 1948 to Wanda Louise Hibbs (née Ketcher) and Hilbert Allen Hibbs, Sr., in Tulsa. He was the middle child of three between eldest Judy Katherine Gibson (née Hibbs) and youngest Frank Marion Hibbs.
Butch was truly a character. Incredibly charming, funny, and generous; it was impossible to not love him. His work ethic was unparalleled, and he fought hard for himself and for his family. He accomplished many things in his life and helped to build up those around him. Butch attended Edison High School in Tulsa and graduated in 1968. There he met Pamela Neal Hibbs (née Deardeuff). They married on December 27th, 1972. They had a son, Travis, in 1977 and a daughter, Kendal, in 1983. Butch owned a construction subcontracting company, Murphy and Hibbs Sealants and Waterproofing. He built a thriving business that was a source of pride and made many connections and friends across the construction industry. He finally retired in 2015 to enjoy time with his grandchildren and loved ones. Butch enjoyed golf and football, but most of all he loved hunting and fishing. His time spent in nature, whether hunting mallards, geese, deer, or boar, was deeply important to him. Sharing that experience with his family was just as important; the land belonging to his cousin Steve Hibbs, and Steve's son Chad, was one of Butch's favorite places to visit. He also traveled regularly to play golf with his friends and took great joy in his group trips to Myrtle Beach. Butch is survived by his two children, Travis (Stuart Yothers) and Kendal (Cameron Coley), and his two grandchildren, Aurora Hibbs-Coley and Hunter Hibbs-Coley. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Pam, with whom he maintained a lifelong connection.
Services will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Matthews Funeral Home.
