Ida Mae Mitchell Newton
1948-2018
Ida Newton, 70 passed away at 12:05pm at home on September 22, 2018.
Ida was born in Ellsworth, KS on June 7 th , 1948, the youngest of 5 children. She graduated from Lucas High School in 1966. After graduation she moved to Edmond, OK and started Rojas Beauty School & she graduated in June of 1966. She worked at Marjorie's Beauty Rama from 1966-1970, from 1970-1980 she worked for Dora Purdue at Dora's Beauty Shop. In 1980 she became co-owner of The Fashionette Beauty Salon. In 1989 she became sole owner & operator of The Fashionette Beauty Salon until she retired & closed the shop in December 2017. Where she watched her daughter Josie followed in her footsteps becoming a licensed cosmetologist. Ida celebrated 52 years as a Cosmetologist before she officially retired in 2017.
Ida was blessed with a daughter Josie that became her sole caregiver in 2010 when she was diagnosed with cancer. Josie, along with Ida's best friend Sandy Stewart and Grandson Cody Dokes were by her side when she passed away at home.
Ida is survived by Her Brother Bob Mitchell (Joplin), Her Daughter Josie Newton(Edmond), Step Daughters Sandra Newton (Edmond), Tammy Dokes (Piedmont), Step Son Doug Newton & Wife Jamie (Guthrie), 7 Grandchildren & Spouses, 12 Great Grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews & wonderful friends that became family over the years.
Ida was preceded in death by Her Dad Truman Mitchell, Her Mother Dorothy Mitchell Patrick, Her Grandma Josie & Grandpa George Mitchell, Her Grandma & Grandpa Lantz, Her Uncle Babe & Aunt Frances Dodson, Her Uncle Bub & Aunt Myrtle Mitchell, Her Brother George & wife Ruby Mitchell, Her Sister Levena Craven Blanke & husband Jack Blanke, Her Brother Don "Dick" & wife Nadine Mitchell and other family members Jerry England, Frauste Smith, Melvin Carven & Lisa Terry
She loved camping & playing games with family & friends, Taking day trips & trips to Branson with Josie. She loved Blazers Hockey, Braves Baseball & Hockey road trips with friends & family.
Ida was known as being a strong woman & a wonder woman. She didn't let cancer run her life, she was a fighter. Josie & her family would like to thank Dr. Katherine Moxley, Stephenson Cancer Center, OU Med Center Oncology, Carter Hospice & all the amazing nurses she has had over the last 8 years.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Gracelawn Cemetery. Reception to follow interment at the Arcadia Lake Caddo Pavillion, located at the Scissortail campsite off 15th Street.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 25 th from 11:00-8:00 p.m. Family will be present to greet friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
