Jack Howard Oak, 87, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026. Born in Chariton, Iowa in 1938, he built a life defined by service, dedication, and quiet strength.
A proud graduate of Iowa State University, and continued his education of Veterinary Medicine at Davis University in California. His career led him to the United States Department of Agriculture with a specialty in Epidemiology. He ultimately retired as the Veterinarian in Charge for the State of Louisiana. His colleagues knew him as a steady leader, a trusted expert, and a man who approached every challenge with integrity.
His devotion to service extended far beyond his professional life. A military veteran of 41 years, he served both on active duty and in the Air National Guard. His discipline and skills were evident not only in his military career but also in his passion for competitive pistol shooting, where he excelled as an expert marksman and proudly served as the Air National Guard pistol team captain. He competed at the local, state and national levels and had a true passion for coaching others.
He was preceded in death by his first love, Sandra Ann Oak, and his second love, Marca Oak. Their memories remained a cherished part of his life.
He leaves behind a loving family who will carry his legacy forward: three sons—John, Mark, Dan daughter, Julie Owens and their families.. His children remember him as a man of quiet wisdom, unwavering principles, and deep love.
His life was one of purpose, service, and devotion—to his country, his profession, and most of all, his family. He will be deeply missed and forever honored.
