James Bennett Miles

1957 – 2025

James Bennett Miles, 68, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away on April 27, 2025, after a lifelong and courageous battle with diabetes and then heart disease, surrounded by the love of Christ and his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Jessie Miles and his brother, Eddie Miles. Born in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, with a relentless work ethic and a warm heart, Jim lived a life defined by perseverance, adventure, and an unwavering devotion to provide for those he loved.

Survived by his wife Brenda Miles and a dedicated father to Cameron and Taylor Miles, Jim's greatest joy was watching his children grow and thrive. His love extended to his grandchildren, Isaac, Adrianna, and Aubree Miles, whose laughter and achievements filled his heart. As a brother to Patricia Hazzard and Betty Merritt, and an uncle to seven nieces and nephews, Jim was a pillar of support and a source of countless memories for his family. Jim's childhood wasn't picturesque, yet it was adequate. He worked tirelessly to provide a fine and loving home for his children, and in that he more than succeeded. His sons never questioned if they were loved or approved of, they always knew that they were.

Jim went to Northwest Classen High School, where he graduated and laid the foundation for a life of determination. His competitive spirit shone early on the football field and as a track and field athlete, where he played at Southeastern Oklahoma State University and the University of Central Oklahoma, forging lifelong friendships. That same drive defined his career. Starting as a janitor at Mayfair Baptist Church, living humbly in the church basement while attending college, Jim worked tirelessly, eventually rising through the automotive industry to become the proud owner of several car dealerships throughout his career. His success was built on integrity, a knack for connecting with people, and an unyielding commitment to kindness.

Jim's love for automobiles and the open road defined much of his life; he was never happier than when embarking on long road trips with his family, exploring new places, or sharing tales of his travels. His wanderlust was matched only by his pride in his family's service—his father Edgar's career in the Air Force and his grandfather's contributions to the military and state transportation department were stories he cherished and shared often.

Jim leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and an adventurous spirit. His family and friends will forever carry his hard-working heart, competitive drive, and warm smile in their memories.

"It is not as a child that I believe and confess Jesus Christ. My hosanna is born of a furnace of doubt." Fyodor Dostoyevsky
