Jeffrey Jack Burton, born in West Covina, California on December 26, 1957, passed away May 17, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him most. He was 67.
Jeff grew up in Poteau, Oklahoma, where he spent his childhood exploring the woods, building forts, and riding bikes — a free-spirited boy with a curiosity for life. He was active in the Boy Scouts and proudly marched with the Poteau Pirates High School Band, playing the trumpet.
He earned his business degree from the University of Oklahoma, where he began a lifelong love affair with Sooner football. To Jeff, Sooner Magic was not just about game day — it was a way of life.
In 1982, a job fair match led Jeff to USF&G Insurance, where he launched a distinguished career in the insurance industry. From Field Supervisor to trusted leader, Jeff dedicated his professional life to serving clients and colleagues with care, intelligence, and integrity. He joined INSURICA in 2000 and rose to become President of INSURICA of Central Oklahoma.
He was a true student of the industry, earning the CPCU, CIC, and CRM designations. Jeff was a pillar in the insurance community — serving on the Board of Directors and as Chairman for the Independent Insurance Agents of Oklahoma. He was recently honored with the prestigious Big I Oklahoma "Legacy of Service Award."
Jeff was a man who knew the value of relationships. He was not just respected by his clients, they loved him. A strong leader and passionate mentor, he invested deeply in the personal well-being of his team.
He loved muscle cars — especially his prized 1966 and 1970 Chevelle SS classics. He found joy in a well-manicured lawn and took pride in having the best yard on the block. Jeff was a music enthusiast, especially artists who told stories – Bruce Springsteen, Guy Clark and Van Morrison were favorites. He had a quick wit, a gentle heart, and the kind of laugh that invited others in. He was playful, humble, and endlessly kind.
Jeff was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 32 years, Debbie; his son Justin, daughter-in-law Megan, and grandchildren Daphne and Daxton; his brother Joe and sister-in-law Diana Burton; his sister Diane Nishmuta and husband Gary; their children and grandchildren; and his vast INSURICA family.
Jeff's presence filled rooms, steadied hearts, and lifted spirits. His absence leaves a hole no words can truly fill. The legacy he built — in family, friendship, and service — will endure.
Services will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2025, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at St. Luke's Methodist Church; 900 N Sooner Rd., Edmond, OK 73034.
