Jennifer Joerene Yarbrough

Jennifer Joerene Yarbrough, 73, of Oklahoma City, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on October 14, 2025. Born on May 22, 1952, in Oklahoma City, Jennifer lived her entire life in the community she loved, leaving a lasting impact on those around her.

Jennifer’s educational journey began at Millwood School, where she attended through 9th grade, followed by John Marshall High School, where she graduated in 1970. She attended Oklahoma State University for one year before earning her Bachelor of Education in 1974 and Master of Education in Speech Language Pathology in 1988, both from the University of Central Oklahoma. During her Master’s program, she was honored with a merit award for her outstanding dedication and academic excellence. As a dedicated speech pathologist, Jennifer spent most of her career at Orvis Risner Elementary in Edmond, where her commitment to helping students communicate effectively touched countless lives with her expertise and compassion.

A passionate sports fan, Jennifer remained a loyal Oklahoma State Cowboys fan, even while living in a house of Sooners fans. Her love for sports extended to the Oklahoma City Thunder, and she cherished witnessing their championship victory.

Jennifer was preceded in death by her parents, Byron Butts and Mary Louise Clough, of Oklahoma City. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Darrell Yarbrough; her children, Kenny Yarbrough (and his wife, Aimee Yarbrough, and their children, Cooper Yarbrough and Claire Yarbrough, all of Edmond) and Jason Yarbrough (and his child, Daviee Yarbrough, also of Edmond, and Daviee’s mother, Katie Yarbrough); her siblings, Jim Butts and Marian Bates; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jennifer’s family was her greatest joy, and her lovely presence and unwavering support will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, October 21, 2025, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Matthews Funeral Home Chapel, 601 S. Kelly Ave., Edmond, OK 73003.
