Jerry D. Henderson

Jerry D. Henderson was born on March 13, 1937, in Abilene, Texas to W.W. and Myrtle Henderson. He grew up in Abilene and graduated from Abilene High School in 1956. He graduated from the University of Noth Texas in 1960. While at North Texas he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Just after graduation he started his career with Sears, which lasted 32 years. Jerry had job assignments in Houston, Dallas, Albuquerque, and Oklahoma City. He moved his family to Oklahoma City in 1978, when he was promoted to Group Merchandise Manager. Jerry retired in 1993 as a Store General Manager.

After retirement his passion was traveling. He enjoyed researching and planning almost as much as taking the trips. He and his wife, Jean, traveled to many countries in Europe.

Jerry spent several hours each week volunteering. He volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House, Rebuilding Together, Breakfast on Boulevard, and Master Naturalist. During the first years of his retirement, he served as a retail counselor for SCORE, which is a resource partner with the Small Business Administration. He loved riding bikes, sailing, and fishing, especially fly-fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Rob Henderson, sister Betty Brady, brother Jack Henderson, and sister Patsy Kimbler. Survivors include his wife Jean, daughter Melissa and husband Clay, son Jeff, son Ben and wife Patti, stepson Ron Hooley, stepdaughter Janet Wallis and husband David. Jerry is also survived by his grandchildren; Lydia Thompson (Riccardo), Claire Thompson, Wyatt Henderson, Ross Thompson, Jon Hooley, Brenden Henderson, Rory Henderson, Alex Wallis (Noah), Conner Wallis, and Katie Hooley. As well as great grandson Leonardo Pavesi Thompson.

Visitation will be held Monday, April 1, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Services will be held Monday, April 1, 2024, beginning at 4:00pm at the Matthews Funeral Home Chapel in Edmond, Oklahoma.
